I have a 1972 Chrysler 354HC. Will a 1988 50hp Force Lower Unit fit my motor? If not, what years and hp models will fit my motor?

Gearcases from 35s, 40s, 45s, and 50s are the same. They didn't change a thing on those for decades.

Except for the driveshaft. Come to think of it I have run into shafts that are slightly shorter than others. I had one used one that I installed for a gentleman and it worked fine for a short time. The splines were only into the crankshaft by about 1/4" and they failed. The correct length shaft solved that. They're fully interchangeable.

Re: Lower Unit Compatability

I currently have a 55 on my 45. I used my old drive shaft because the one I got on ebay was a long shaft and my boat needs a standard shaft. I was told it would fit on a 35 as well. If you see a picture of one you are interested in buying look at the water tube and the shift linkage. If they look the same it will probably latch up to your motor.
