I had a 1997 force 40 hp outboard that threw a piston through the block. I replaced it with a 1988 40 hp outboard. The lower unit and prop on the 1997 are in better condition on the 1997 than on the 1988. Will they swap out?

Re: lower unit 40hp swap

Thanks for the info. The lower units are radically different on the outside. Mainly the prop/prop attachment. I am tearing the blown engine down for salvagable parts. All the electricals, steering and power trim connections were identical. I would still like to make a frankenmotor by using the engine from the 88 on the 97 housing assembly or the 88 housing assembly and the 97 lower unit. I may be screwed either way but I am still willing to look at the feasability.
