Lower Unit 25 hp Evinrude

Lower unit is slipping. Doe this motor have a slip universal or something? I don't know year model either, but have the numbers.<br />252025R<br />E04565<br />I would appreciate anyones help on the year model how to fix the lower unit.

Take a look at the prop hub.

I pulled the prop off and there is nothing behind that but a bearing.

I checked the hub and noticed it has a shear pin. Everything seems to be intact, but the lower unit does have about 1/3 of a turn slop in it. I checked the oil and there was no metal in it, so I split the unit an visualy checked the gears. They look good as well. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks

Borrow a prop and try it. IF you turn flywheel while in gear does shaft turn?

The flywheel does turn over with this prop. It only slips und higher rpms.

I'm having the exact same problem on a 1990 Johnson 25 HP. It kicks out of gear at higher RPM's especially when the boat is loaded. I haven't been able to figure it out either. I had given it to a buddy of mine that is a marine mechanic to work on and he didn't find anything wrong. I'm starting to run out of ideas. I would love to hear if you find anything out about yours.

If by slipping you mean kicking in and out of gear, the clutch dog and forward gear are probably shot. Since your prop has a shear pin rather than a pressed rubber hub used on newer motors, there are few other possibilities. If you don't have a shop manual and want to do the work yourself, get one before attempting any work. Otherwise, take it to a dealer.
