Hello all just want to say thank you in advance and sorry if this already has been posted.

i just bought a bass boat xpress 17ft and it is my first boat. It has a Yamah 50 TLRD 2 stroke outboard, I have a mechanic coming out this weekend to look at a few thing as I suspect it’s going to be a carb rebuild and a lower end unit impeller replacement.

for the lower end unit my main concern is re installing it back, should it be in gear or neutral? And what do I do if the splines do not line up?

Foe the carbs it seams like a scary thing to approach is there a pdf manual on how to rebuild these? Is it for the faint of heart or leave it to the pros?

Thanks again

You probably want it in neutral, but get the service manual from yamahapubs.com to be sure. Impeller & carb work is certainly DIY-level maintenance. The splines will line up.. just gently push up and turn it until it fits in.

The service manual will also tell you how to check/rebuild the carburetors.

The water pump is very simple after you do it once....leave control in neutral...grease threads and splines, take your time...not much to it. Google Yamaha outboard motor water pump replacement for several nice videos showing you all about it....YouTube can be your buddy on stuff like this......If the motor runs well now then maybe carbs don' t need rebuilding.
