lower end swap

ok I have a 60-61 merc 400 s 1314674 that the motor has seen better days but good lower end....
and a 56-58 mark 55 1138338 that the lower end got busted

so what I was thinking is can the lower end off the 400 go on the 55? if so what parts will I need

AFAIK the bolt patterns and lower unit designs are the same with little or no difference between parts. If you have both motors in front of you, give it a shot, it dosn't take that long to yank 'em down and compare...........ed

p.s. I'm assuming the "400" does not exhaust thru the prop hub, believe that was for the "500" only that year.

ok I took a long look at both they look the same. from the looks of what I have the only part that needs to be took off the 400 and put on the 55 is the very end the part that holds the prop,skag?,esc.... I'm thinking this should fit but is there anything I need to know about b4 I pull it off and try putting it back on? like if there is anything that I can drop down the lower end when I pull it off.. tubes? spacers?
