I recently replaced the seals on the lower unit (top shaft). Also, a new water pump. Before putting the new pump on, I noticed the shaft will not turn. It does move a little in either direction but not much. I tried turning in upside down, still nothing. Could adding lower case gear oil help the situation.

Motor: 1994 yamaha 130

Thanks

We have a 125 force, nobody is replying so I will do my best.
1. Did the shaft turn before you replaced the seal ?
2. I doubt adding gear oil will help.
3.It sounds like the driveshaft, came out of the bevel pinion gear and didn't go back in correctly ?
or something moved or changed, the clutch ?
4.Better get a factory service manual, if your going to fix it.

How hard did you try turning it a new water pump can get stuck in the housing. Take the water pump housing off and lube it with dish soap then see if it turns. Pretty sure yamaha uses a nut on the drive shaft down by the pinion. Also pretty sure the water pump assembly would not go back together with the drive shaft out. Have you installed it into the motor yet.
