78 55hp the one shop wants 300 and thats just labor i have the seal kit already... i have the service manual and im a pretty mechanically inclined person ive done head gaskets and motor rebuilds on cars how difficult is it to do them

on my 98 there was three main seals that i was concerned with.
the shift shaft seal, the prop shaft seal and orings, and the drive shaft seal. the shift shaft and drive shaft are easy to get to
I can say on mine the only one that may pose a problem is the prop shaft seal as you need a carrier bearing puller to get to this.. only the dealer has it.
You could fabricate a puller.. or just have a shop pull it and you reinstall it with the new seal
at least this is the way on my 98 model.
