Lower end 2003 75 hp Mercury

My son took bottom end off so i dont know what gear he took it off in now having trouble reinstalling bottom end i took prop shaft assembly out to replace prop seals
What gear should it be in at shifter and how to sync the lower end ?

Generally you need lower unit and control the same.----So try lever in neutral.----And put lower unit in neutral.

Thank you yes i can get the lower end in nuetral now at prop but vertical drive shaft is tight i mist have misses something in reassembly , going back in to see if i messed something up befor i famage anything

The impeller puts lots of drag on the driveshaft.

I just took apart leaving the first gear and drive shaft as it is , shouldnt i be able to turn drive by hand ? I feel some free play twisting the shaft back and forth but cant turn it mind you i have terrible arthritis so maybe ill get a younger set of hands to try it

Try twisting the Flywheel as you install the Case

Thanks fellows you were right impeller created lots of drag and i jiggled the shifter very quickly as my son slipped it up and on
