Lower crankcase head seal?

I kind of doubt I have a problem but you know how some of us worry after a rebuild. My 98 115 is running pretty good, real quiet with no noises, compression is good (all around 125 psi) after 6 hrs since rebuild but I noticed something when I removed the spark plugs to do a comperssion check today. When I rotated the flywheel by hand I heard a loud rubbing noise. My son who has much better hearing than me said it was comming from the mid section of the motor between the power head and lower unit. The only thing I worried about when I rebuilt the power head was whether or not the lower seal was pressed deep enough into the lower crankcase head. Would this make a rubbing noise if it came loose? Any other thoughts? May be normal and I may be worried about nothing. (I hope)

You are most likely hearing the impellor rubbing as it turns. Perfectly normal. Have your son listen down at the foot and try it again.

If the lower seal fell out, I dont think you would hear it at all. The rubbing sound is most likely the impeller or the motor breathing thru reeds.
