I meaning is you can test drive a new car of any type. Many times you can test drive a new Harley motorcycle.
you can never test drive a new metric motorcycle.I bought a new Yamaha Star 1900 Roadliner in 08 that I hated so bad,but I was stuck with it,I traded a Honda 750 V4 Magna in on it,almost gave it to them, and it was a so much better bike.
You can not test drive a new boat can you?
Many say the 16' rivted jon is too much for the Merc 25 jet, that has the 25 prop head.
Many say the heavier Tracker Grizzly type boats are too heavy for the 40jet,this is assuming 2 big men, gear, and an occasional 3rd person..
Unless you can find somebody with the exact set-up you want,it is a guessing game, and jets are not known to me,never been in one.
In Merc line:
25 jet is 526cc,same as 25/30 prop, this motor does not allow for jet power loss, expect 18-21 hp@ jet
40 jet is 995cc,same as 60 prop,expect
40hp@jet.All this imfo is from my research, opinions are varied as always,as well as little imfo on the jets.
Our old local OMC dealer will not stock jets,he claims too many issues, but all our rivers here in WV are rocky shoals.
He told me in 2012 he sold several 16' rivet jon boats, with the Merc 25 jet,not one would plane out with 2 men&gear in a reasonable time. Many hard feelings, this boat,as all rivet 16' jon boats has a 35hp max, will not take the 40 jet,and he also sold a few with the Merc 25 to 30 prop, all these people were happy, hence he no longer sells jets.
Point is you better know what your getting when you lay the cash out.
Sorry to go on this rant.
