low speed on mercury 65 hp

I have a 650 tunderbolt outboard on a15 foot trihull I can only get 26mph at top speed I have to use the warm up lever for my throttle and use ny gear shift to bring up the advance on the dist just got this boat and motor and Im not sure this is the correct way to run the controls or is there something missing the motor runs well but Im not sure if the timing or the carbs are set right service place backed up 30 days so I thought someoe may have some Ideas thanks slow boat in china maine

I see my posts are not showing up.<br />The cold start lever needs to be put down to the locked position after you start the motor. Then use the shift lever tho shift the motor. Now the shift lever turns into your gas lever, there is a dead spot as you push it forward. Once your through the dead spot you will engauge the gas, the further you push the handle forward the faster you will go. The arm will stop after a 120 degree<br />movement from neutral,this means you are at Wide Open Throtal. It works the same way for reverse,<br />the further back you pull it the faster you will go after the control box shifts the motor into reverse.<br />hope you see this and it helps.<br />...have fun...corm
