I have a 95 150 intruder.I am getting a low oil alarm, one quick signal every 30 seconds,or so.Should I be concerned about the vro pump ?It appears to be using oil,but I,m not sure how much it should be using because I only go through one tank (30 gal) per season.

Re: low oil alarm

Welcome jayhan!

Probably the sender unit in the reservoir has gone south. The harnes from the reservoir looks like a black lamp cord and goes up to the engines lower pan. To make sure it's the sender, disconnect just one side of the lead and see if the Low Oil Tone stops. If it does, sender is bad.

What you can do to measure oil use is clean the outside of the oil tank real good and use a black permanent marker to put some hash marks on the tank. Then you can "see" the oil use from the hash marks. If there is some question about oil usage, use premix fuel along with the reservoir unitl oil usage is verified.

Re: low oil alarm

How can you test the sender for low oil that isn't making noise, short of draining the oil tank? Mine ran dry and fried the engine; I rebuilt it and make daggone sure there's oil in it. But I'd like to know if it works. Ideas? Also is there a way to check the alarm at the engine end that warns if oil is not getting to the engine?
1990 70 Johnson w/ VRO
