Let start off by saying thanks to all the responses to previous correspondence's I have posted. This is truly a great forum. Now to my question... I have a 60hp Erude. I noticed others have made the comment about the low/no oil, fuel, temp alarm not being loud enough while on the water. True or not I don't know however I prefer to address this problem before I find out the hard way. I purchased a louder piezo alarm (12V@6mA) that I want to install in parallel with existing. What is the purpose of the hard ground? I see that I have a contstant 12V on one side of the beeper and I assume we are grounding the other side via the alarm circuit. What is generating the pulsing signals for low oil and no oil? Thanks for any help

Pertaining to the "Hard Ground", I assume you're speaking of the black plastic like warning horn with a contained black ground wire and two plug on type terminals.

The horn is electronic, not pure electrical and the attached black ground enables the horn to go into its test mode and beep when you turn the key to the on position.

The different pulsing modes are emitted by the components themselves... Oil tank, VRO, etc.

Re: Louder Warning Beeper

Thank you Joe Reeves. This is all coming together. Basically if you don't hear the test beep at startup then you run the risk of having a problem and not knowing it. The VRO apparently has the electronics built in for pulsing (ie probably not a relay because the additional beeper I added has a low tone which is probably due to leakage current from a solid state device in the VRO. I can remedy that with a pull down resistor). At least my confiedence level will go up in knowing I'll be able to hear the beeper hopefully before I have major repair costs. Again thanks.
