loud pinging noise, yam 4 stroke 50?

when i dissconnect the fuel line to run out the carbs, i get a loud pinging sound. i realize that this is not related to gas/ oil mix. it is it a vacuum noise? i am afraid to dissconnect the fuel line as this noise may be damaging.<br /><br />i enjoy reading this forum every night i come home from work. i have learned soooo much about outboards. thanks!

That sound is competely normal.Your fuel pump works off the camshaft of this engine,and when it is full of fuel,it will dampen the sound of the work that it is doing.When it is going m.t.you will hear that pump.Don't be afraid of this as you are causing no damage .
