Okay so i was on the water yesterday full throttle in the bay here in tampa. Out of nowhere i hear a loud kurplunk and a loud grinding noise afterwords. I immediately shut it off and checked over the motor nothing visibly wrong so i turned it back on. All i heard was a loud grinding noise when i put it back into gear and it also did not move at all. So i shut it off waved a boat by and got towed back to the dock. What could the problem here be? im guessing my gears are all ate up here

Grinding in both reverse and forward.
No power to it what so ever from propeller.
Sounds fine in neutral.
Extremely loud grinding.

Re: Loud grinding

Defiantly sounds like the LU is in need of some work. Pulling the LU lower drain plug should tell the story. If there are a lot of metal particles in the gear oil and/or water, then it is time to get another LU, or rebuild the one you have. JMO
