Re: lots of white smoke

White smoke is usually steam. Is the motor overheating?

Check the spark plugs for signs of water intrusion. If water gets into the cylinders, the plugs get steam cleaned and look brand new.

Also, when you look at the tops of the pistons through the plug holes, they will be nice and shiny. Which is actually NOT GOOD.

if the white smoke is steam i think it would rise and dissipate. if the smoke stays on the surface of the water and doesnt dissipate it maybe to much oil(oil injected 2 stroke?) or running rich with 2 stroke oil. im not an expert so just an opinion

Section8's reasoning is sound, although, I have never seen any 2 cycle oil put out white smoke. It is always blue. Too rich gas-air mix is usually grey smoke.
