I have a 2009 Mercury 9.9 that I bought new as a left over in 2012. Recently I had to get a new carburator due to fuel issues with ethanol. I just got the motor back and now there is a lot of slack in the throttle. I have to turn it to about 3/4 throttle just to get the rpms above idle. I think it's probably a steering cable but I'm not sure and I don't know how to adjust it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I did. Brought it back today and they said there was nothing they can do. They said the throttle cable and all of the gears are all in the origional place and they were not touched while installing the new Carburator. It is clear that the throttle is not right and has to be turned much farther than it used to just to gain any power.

Do you have the old carb? If nothing was changed (and I'm not saying I believe them), there could be a slight difference in how or where the linkage connects to the new carb, you can compare it to old one and see.

The cable can also be adjusted, but this sounds a little more extreme than a slight adjustment.

Thanks for your response. Today I compaired the two and noticed at full throttle the new one doesn't reach the metal stopper on the carburator( I don't know if it is supposed to) I think the real problem is in the front of the motor where the throttle cable turns the rod which controls the fuel being pushed into the carb. When looking at the front where the throttle cable is I can see the the rod is sitting at the bottom and has to be turned all the way to the top before the rod is pushed allowing more fuel to be pushed into the carb. Hope this makes sense as I really don't know the proper terms for these components of the motor.
Thanks.
