So, over the Christmas holidays I did some serious soul-searching after a less-than-stellar review at my employer. I decided that while I could do the work I was doing, its not something that I could see myself doing for another year (I was seriously bored with it, hence the bad review). I committed to starting a job search to see what else is out there. First week in January, GM announced that it was opening an IT Innovation Center here in Atlanta, and they were going to be hiring about 1000 IT workers across many specialties. Must've been one of those things, because I find out through a friend of mine who is taking care of the hiring for the new site. I get him my resume and about two weeks later I have a job offer making more $$ and I cut my commute from almost an hour to 10 minutes or so.
So here I am a brand new GM employee.
Now, my wife has been a stay at home mom for the last 8 years and is getting the itch to re-enter the work force and get out of the house some. A neighbor of mine mentions that he heard about a job in the shipping department at a regional Honda Power Equipment facility, also about 10 minutes from the house. My wife gets the contact information, interviewed on Friday, and she started there today! The extra income is going to be nice, plus company discounts for GM Vehicles as well as Honda gas motor devices (including outboards). Sometimes thing just fall into place.
Now I'll have to find myself an excuse to rebuild a boat and re-power with a Honda outboard. It can be a big boat that I'll tow with the new Yukon or Suburban. Good times!
