I have a Yamaha 225 HP SWSII. I was running WOT at 5700 rpm, when all of a sudden the engine lost power and die. It took like 10 mins. before it restarted, but the engine never reach WOT, it ran like 3500 and lost all power, and would sputter and die at idle.

I checked all the wiring and check the spark plugs, and all the spark plug wires have spark.

What else should I check?

Well, if you have good spark to all 6 I would say you have a fuel problem.

1 Carb feeds 2 cylinders.

2 fuel pumps (I think) feed all 6 cylinders.

See what happens if you pump the primer bulb.

Let us know. :)

If the compression fine. Then its a fuel problem. What the history of this engine has been running fine and gust died or has this boat sat for a long period time. The only time this engine loose power other than burning up a piston fuel restriction pick in the tank, valve on the top of the fuel tank, bad fuel pump low pressure, check valve in fuel in fuel injected model, dirty carbs. I would pull the top carb and pull the bowl and see if there is some mud in it If the bottom of the bowl is discolored you need to clean the carbs.

Make sure there is no water in the fuel pull and check your fuel filters. We pull filters filters and inspect the fuel. I have found filters in boats that the owner never new about. If the boats new to us we will trace the fuel system to make sure there are no hidden fuel filters.

vinney,

On the topic of filters, is there a limit on the number of filters one can attach to the fuel line? I guess what I'm asking is would the vro pump work efficiently with 2 filters instead of the 1 that is usually fitted?

Sorry this is a bit off topic.

Re: lost wot

efi engine and optimax and ficht engine have restriction on the amount of vacuum you put on the system. Carb engine I have never run into a problem except for dirty filters.I hope this helps. I replace vro pumps every eight years. I buy them from dfi technology. A couple guys that left omc and started there own company.

Re: lost wot

The problem was a bad CDI, all the cylinders were firing upon starting the engine, but after it got hot, two of the cylinders were not firing. The mechanic swapped coils was still doing the same thing.
