I went to measure something related to my boat. Went into my truck to get my tape measure. My tape measure had been there for over a month. I looked around inside and then decided to look in my bed from the tailgate end of my topper. I then spend over an hour searching everywhere inside my truck for it. Then I searched my garage for a long while. I gave up on finding that tape measure that I really liked. I walked around my truck to go back inside my house and I decided to open up the front of the topper. (If I don't open it often enough, moisture condenses inside the lock and it sticks shut, usually at the worst possible time) Well, I opened it up and looked down and there was my tape measure! I then remembered that I had been measuring something that I had on my tailgate and had locked my truck and changed into work clothes since I was going to be getting dirty, so I didn't have my keys. I shut up everything and dropped my tape measure into the other end of my bed cover thinking I would retrieve it a short time later when I had my keys. A week passed until I missed it.......

Lesson learned was don't forget to do something.

I have about a dozen tape measures dotted around the house, the vehicles, the vacation residences etc and still have trouble finding one when I need it.:D:facepalm:

Re: Lost my tape measure

I understand the tape measure thing.......

We have always kept a tape measure in the top kitchen drawer with the knives for over 20 years!!
That and a roll of insulating tape.

Always needed. Always there. No stress.

Reminds me of the last day of the month last month.
(Aspeck will appreciate this).
Hard target for the month, motivating the guys, stock issues still pending due to Japanese earthquake?..tough tough month.
Been sharing the car with my lady as hers is in for service.
Got a taxi home at 10pm. Saw my car was not outside the villa Wondered why Karen wasn?t home.
Got inside. She was there watching TV.
I had the car and left it at work!!

There?s more??

Did paperwork at home till 1am, went to bed knackered but satisfied that I had everything done now.
Woke up, went outside to go to work, NO car!!! Thought the car had been stolen!!

Time to take a deeeeep breath?.aaaaaand relax???

LOL...well...they do say the first thing to go is the mind..heheheh. Happens to all of us at one time or another. Like searching the house endlessly for your sunglasses and getting seriously p*ssed about it only to discover they've been resting on the top your head the whole time...or (and my wife will kill me for this one), she's asking me where the tv remote has disappeared to...I give her a quizzical look and then ask her "what's that in your hand?" ...lol. And THAT'S why she's not allowed to have the 'mote ...:D

I have a bumper sticker on my P/U that says" Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most". As for the tape measure, my 1/2"x 10' has lived in my pocket for at least 30yrs.

Re: Lost my tape measure

That's the problem I have doing any kind of job with tools. It seems I spend more time looking for and going to get tools than accomplishing anything. The one that really gets me is when I'm really involved in the task and put something down without even realizing I've put it down. Then spend a lot of time looking for it cuz it could be anywhere.

I've hunted round my office for my mobile while I'm talking on it!
(only done that twice though so I think I'm still sane)....

If ever i can't find the remote I look 2 places, The fridge or the pantry. I always find it in the end.

Isn't it funny how you always find things in the last place you look?

Re: Lost my tape measure

My son has never touched a tape measure that he hasn't destroyed. This started at age 4, and he's 6 now. His record is 40 seconds. In 40 seconds he had a 10' tape measure broken into 5 pieces (I didn't know it had 5 pieces) without the aid of any tools. And there was a bolt holding the case together, but somehow that didn't stop him!

So i don't have any tape measures to lose!

Re: Lost my tape measure

I'm with lakelover- I spend more time looking for stuff that's right in front of me (sometimes in my hand!) than I spend time working.

I buy tape measures and utility knives all the time. I'm waiting for the day I move- I know I'll find about a hundred of each somewhere....

Re: Lost my tape measure

I have at least 2 of every hand tool I own. Still can't find things when I need them.

One of the funniest things I remember growing up was helping my Dad change a light fixture in our home. He was standing on a chair, told me to hand him a screw driver he had been using. I didn't have it. He was throwing a FIT. I think he accused everyone on the planet of stealing his blankety blank blank screw driver. This went on for at least 20 minutes. You should have seen him blush when he sat down and felt something in his back pocket. Yep, sure enough, he had slipped it into his back pocket. Best laugh I ever had at his expense.
