LOST MY MIND? Maybe, I am going to run for public office.

One of the "old timers" is not running for reelection this year for county supervisor and several people have tossed my name around as a replacement. At first I blew the idea off, I am not a politition and I've never served in any public office but the more I've kicked the idea around the more I think I will take a run at it.

Why?

1. I don't believe I could do a worse job than the current crop of supervisors.

2. Someone has to do it.

3. I can declare one personal vehicle as an "emergency vehicle" and drive, well you know.

Bubba, I feel you on this idea. I'm no politician either. I'm a straight shooter and I call it like I see it. My ward in our little town is needing a council member. Right now our city council meetings are like a free 3 ring circus show. I've even had a police officer or two that I'm friends with tell me to go for it. I say do it, Bubba. I'm going to give it a shot. It doesn't take rocket science. Just a little common sense.

I too gave local service a go. I was ready to turn the village into a jewel, but ended up frustrated by ignorance, disregard for logic, and resistance to change by long term incumbents. I wish you success with your efforts.

You are right on all counts, Bubba, A nonpolitico like you won't have an agenda and will do what is best for the community. GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!

A friend of the family became a county council member once. He said those close friends he had are long gone, but he did gain a lot of new friends..................that are more shady than the ones he had. The man hasn't been right since .........Good Luck Bubba!

Our founding Fathers saw a government of people, just like you and me. NOT, professional politicians or those "born" into leadership.

It's one small and simple step into getting this country back to what it was intended to be. Citizen leaders, elected by the citizens, with no intention of quitting their "day job" to become nothing but a politician.

Yes, as a Moderator, I'm on thin ice here (political) but this stuff is BASIC.

Bubba Knowing you from the Web I don't think you would do well in public office, you seem to be an Integrity based person, therefore as a politician I think you have little hope of doing well.

I kind of have a feeling Bubba will have no problem keeping his integrity intact. Sanity is another matter.

My father served as county supervisor (commissioner by a different name) in Johnson county, Iowa, pop. ~70,000 for 14 years in two stints. Big difference in population but the issues will be the same. Biggest difference is he got paid a little bit.

If you decided to run, let me know. I have a couple of good books on how to win a local election, that I will mail up to you. I ran, and lost, an election down in my county, but gained a lot of experience in how to run that I don't mind passing on to others.

Gee whiz, that's the problem. I don't own those books or have ever read them but....... I would guess they talk about how to transform yourself into something you are not.

Bubba, go "Grass roots". Be yourself. DON'T Change once you get there. It will be tough, but DON'T change.

There should not have to be Books. Nothing against books, I'm an avid reader. But...........how about a good ole, honest guy just trying to change things?

How about getting your head out of your rear before talking? The books I was referring to had to do with the mechanics of an election. Things like how to get organized, where to get signs, raising money, walking door to door, etc. Things you don't normally know or think about when you first start out. And I was just offering to send them FREE. I didn't write the damn things. They were just some books I had laying around. But what do I know. Bubba, good luck with your election.
