Lost Keys to Yamaha Setup

I just bought a brand new boat last week and took it out Sunday to start breaking in my 150 TXRD and have been sick so we came in only after a short while out. In the process of finishing securing the boat to the trailer and prepairing to leave the docks, I LOST MY KEYS. I've called the dealer and he won't take the time to look up the key code (crappy dealer for sure). Is there any other way to find the key code so I can go to a local Yamaha dealer and get another set made?

if the PDI sheet was actually done its on the sheet,
I guess now you will find out if the tech, the dealer, and yourself actually did the PDI sheet or even read it. the key number is along the top,
on some switches there is a code under the plastic switch retaining nut on the flat. will be a 3 digit code.
this is assuming its a yamaha switch. but thats the whole reason that sheet is made.

This is the first new boat I've ever bought so I don't really know what a PDI sheet is. So, apparantly it was not done.

I found three letters instead of numbers on the key switch mechanism. Would those be the code?

Re: Lost Keys to Yamaha Setup

the PDI is a pre delivery inspection
yamaha requires it to be done.
most dealers gundeck it making life more difficult for real techs later down the road.
but ask your selling dealer for the copy of LIT-18161-01-04. its a requirement for retail sales registration for warrenty. without it yamaha has no obligation to warrenty it.
if it was not done I reccomend you contact yamaha and ask them to set you up with an appointment with the selling dealer. myself if it was not done I would want to watch as each item was checked off. it will also require a water test as there is no other way to test WOT and fuel system vacum at WOT. both are specifically marked on the PDI sheet, there is also a section for the tech that performed the inspection as well as the dealer that sold it and the consumer who purchased it.
they are getting sticky about it.
I sometimes think I am the only tech in the world that actually does one, but if I have to sign it you can bet I did it.
yamaha considers it a legal document.
you can find a copy of it on page 1-24 of the 2005 tech guide.
I personally have never seen alpha characters as key codes, however its rare yamaha contacts me when they make a change.

Re: Lost Keys to Yamaha Setup

are you sure your keyswitch is genuine yamaha and not an aftermarket switch in the yamaha plate?
does not happen with the 703 sidemount box much but happens all the time with the 701 and 704 boxes.
aftermarket wholesale, maybe 16 dollars, genuine yamaha, over 100. you figgure the proffit margins for the installer/rigger.

Re: Lost Keys to Yamaha Setup

I found the Key Number when I finally figured out what the correct place to look for it was. The dealer is mailing me two of them and I'm going to buy one more locally to ensure this never happens again.

Oh, yes it is a genuine key switch and it is the 704 control box.

I do appreciate your help rodbolt.
