I have a locking Fulton pin for my reciever hitch. Yep, I lost the key. Without the serial number Fulton can't help me. It is buried into the bumper as a factory hitch frequently is so I can't get a sawzall in there and I don't have a plazma cutter. I do however have a dremel tool? This is hardened steel though......

Idea's? Suggestions? Help!!!

Re: Lost key

I would jsut drill the lock out. i did that to my lock because I broke the key and needed to get the trailer off my truck. just start off with a small drill bit and work your way up.

Re: Lost key

I can tell you from personal experience that the only thing that's going to get it off is a hot wrench (ox/ac torch)...blow the end off. You'll never drill it...

Re: Lost key

Rob, thank you. I must have had my brain stuck on stupid. I saw your post, grabbed my drill and a couple of bits for metal and about 5 minutes later, whalaa!!!! Its done and off...

bjcsc, I didn't actually drill the lock off, just made the tumblers turn enough I guess. While drilling it turned the lock just like the key would have. Off she came.... FWIW the guy at Fulton told me the same thing, torch or sawzall, I guess I just got lucky.

Thanks for the help... My guess is I will find the keys tommorrow. :)

Re: Lost key

I used a dremel to cut through a hardened padlock I lost the key for once, when through it like butter. I recommend the fiber reinforced cut off wheels they sell because the regular wheels break way too easy. It's worth a try before you have to resort to some sort of torch.

Re: Lost key

an air-powered cut off works all the time.
$40

Yep, that's what I'm gonna have to use on mine. When the bad guys stole my Suburban back in Oct of '05, they got all the keys for the hitch pins, top box, ski racks, Club, etc. So far I haven't needed to get the hitch off but when I do..........

Re: Lost key

I had to cut mine off this spring as well. Normally I keep mine off during the winter, but this winter I was hauling things a few times with my trailer and left my 2" ball on. The when spring came and I needed to swap to the 1 7/8" ball for the boat, but couldnt unlock my fulton lock. The inerds of the lock were destroyed by road salt etc. I ended up cutting mine off with a sawzall. I'm sure drilling it out is easier.......but I had fun.:)

Re: Lost key

if you can get to it it is easy to drill out the tumblers useing a small drill bit, just go slow (don't break the bit) then anything will turn it. The tumblers are not hardend.

EDIT: This aint one of those round keys is it? just a plain ol flat key?,,,

I was thinking you had the kind with the round lock, like a coke machine or bike lock, but I'm glad you got it off. Wish I had your luck! If it were me, the drill would not have worked...I would have run out of acetylene right when it got hot enough to cut...and it would have been a weekend (no gas till Monday)...and then, while yelling and beating it with a sledgehammer it would have started to rain...
