I am really new to boating and I mean really new because I just boat my boat last night. Well its a 1975 ArrowGlass Bonita with a 1985 Johnson 60hp and when I got home to clean it up and run the motor there was no key so I called the guy I bought it from and he does not know where the key is and I just wanted to know will any Johnson key work or are these ingnitions like cars. Is so then I can I get a new key.

Thank you
Wade

Actually if you run the boat to a Johnson dealer,he should have keys to try and sell you the right one.

Re: Lost Key For Ignition on 1985 Johnson 60hp

I did not take a ride first I know that he has ran the boat and the hull is in great shape and I only paid $300 for boat and trailer. If there is an issue with the motor my dad has a buddy that builds boats for Nortech and he said I could bring it buy and he will help fix what ever needs to be fixed. I figure for $300 if it ends up coasting more then that to get a key then I will just dump the boat somewhere. I don't think it will cost that much to get a key and for a starter boat I don't think it was a bad purchase.

Thanks

I also left out in my first post that the key was in the ignition when I went to look at it but, I think it may have fallen onto the floor into the leaves and stuff and I may have swept it into the trash. I just talk to my buddy at work and he as a metal detector and I am going to dump the leaves out of the trash can run the detector over them and I may beable to find it.

A key is only a couple of bucks. Get the code of the ignition switch and the dealer can fix you upl If you can't find the code, stop by the dealer as was suggested. There are only a few keys so they will simply try each one until they find the one that works.

little more on the stamped number.on the key switch,on the plastic that the key slot is cut into, get a magnifier glass, and look close, you hopefully will see the code, usually a 2 didgit number,67 is popular, but could be any other,if you find it ,go to a omc dealer, and you can buy a new one.if you cant see the numner ,because it faded away ,take the boat to a dealer, most of the dealers have sets that can be tried, call first, before dragging the boat around
