Lost control key

I recently purchased a 1989 Evinrude 40 hp motor and controls. Problem is that the key to the controls is missing. I can see what appears to be the number '65'. on the key tumbler area. So I ordered a key on eBay that says KF65. Problem is the key does not fit. Do I need a key that says '65' as opposed to KF65?

Went though this a while back.
Search the web for OMC ignition keys.
Found a site that listed keys by model year

The KF designation is for motors prior to 1972
The 65 fits model years 1977-1995
