looper motors ?

hey guys, i'm fairly new to this site. it,s really helped me out. i know this question probably doesn't belong in this forum and if you need to move it i understand, but what exactly does "looper" motor mean or does it describe?

Do a www search on Schneurle. I was proud of myself for getting the spelling right on the first try <br /><br />Being a motorcycle guy I involuntarily roll my eyes when I see a "looper" reference <br /><br />The main problem with a crossflow is the size and shape of the combustion chamber. Impossible to have the small, compact combustion chamber required for a high [ relatively ] BMEP.
