I'm looking to install a transom shower and just looking for ideas and pictures of some of the set ups people have used. I have seen people use a soft ballast bag from wakeboats. I don't need much pressure. Just wondering why I couldn't use a bilge pump in the tank run to a garden hose handle?

Bilge pumps generate flow, not pressure. They shut down with the least bit of restriction.

Tied my into the raw water washdown system. Pumps 4 gpm @ 60 psi

spend the $70 on a proper pump, the $60 on a proper tank and the $60 on a proper spray handle and retractable hose.

Ok I was wondering if that may be the case with a bilge pump. I boat in salt so I would like to have fresh water available or I would tie into the raw side like you did.

What type of switch do the pumps need? Do they run the whole time or do you use a pressure switch?

depends on how you set it up. many have a pressure switch that turns pump on when you open the nozzle on the hose.

there are even wash-down kits on amazon with everything (pump, coil hose, nozzle, wiring) except the tank for between $110 and $125 there are about a dozen or so that look identical with different names. most likely from an off-shore source.

I myself have a 15 gallon poly tank linked along with a shurflo pump and washdown nozzle kit that will be added after the boat is splashed. I already have the fill and the wiring in place.

I rarely if ever use my freshwater tank anymore. Forget to fill the darn thing half the time.

I use raw water (salt) for pretty much everything. Clean fish boxes, rinsing decks, cleaning snot off lures, etc. Has enough flow and pressure to actually be useful.

Use the freshwater at the dock to rinse the tackle down at the end of the day.

I’m running a ShurFlow blaster II Pro wash down pump. The pressure switch is built into the pump. Just pull the trigger on the nozzle.

Btw: the coiled washdown hoses are useless. To much flow restriction. I use a 25’ white (RV) water hose in mine.
