Greetings fellow Iboaters. I am looking to purchase a pair of Jet Skis in the near future. This is new thing for me. Thought I seek help before I move forward. I don't want to make the same mistake when I bought my boat 6 months ago. Preferably I want something that is compact, stylish and definitely lotsof power. I don't really care for any particular brand. Hopefully someone can give me some ideas.

Re: Looking for

Hi GQ. Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki make very good skis. The Honda AquaTrax R12-X is a turbocharged 2-seater that has good power and is quite reliable.
AquaTrax R-12X
Yamaha has the GP1300R and the FX High Output, both are good skis as well.
Yamaha WaveRunners
My personal favorite is the Kawasaki line. Specifically the STX-15F. A bit bigger than the others, it's a 3-seater, but the power and stability is really good.
Kawasaki JetSkis
If you still have questions about PWCs, I'm a moderator at PWCToday.com, feel free to browse the forums...I'm sure you'll find all kinds of information to help you with your purchase.

Captn---

salt water or fresh water? what are you intending to do with it? what price are you trying to stay with. How often will you be riding them? all this can help you find a ski more suited to your needs

Re: Looking for

Captn, thanks for the link. I guess the pics below is more appropriate for me since I am into free-styling and all. The other "types" are too big. More suitable for cruising I take it. So the question now is power. How much power do I need? For such a small craft will 100 horses enough to pull out a Cherry-picker follow by a reverse Indo in short distant? Weight is important.

Cherry-Picker = power up onto an incoming wave, throw weight to the back and bounce on water using the back end.

Indo = power up onto a wave, throw weigh to the front, dip into water, bounce back out and reverse direction.

I've been doing a little browsing on the net; the premix oil-gas engine is not my thing. So yesterday technology.

Jeff, I am close to the beach. There isn't a fresh water body around here. All salt for me.
I can't tell you how often I will use it, but like everything, interest decreases exponentially due to time, but I'm hoping twice a month.
Price wise, I'm expecting under $14, 000 for a pair.

Re: Looking for

looking for stand up skies limits the field considerably, word is kawasaki has the yamaha beat for what you want ,, and salt water will cause the pumps to have problems on both so add a zinc anode to the inside of the ride plate to help reduce corrosion DISCLAIMER// I don't ride stand ups and don't want to get in to a debate over yam vs kaw, just relaying the opinions of people who do ride them, I like to use them for speed bumps when I jump over them on my couch stering with my feet as usual. add a zinc anode to the inside of the ride plate to help reduce corrosion.

OK you got me. I hear what your saying. Not sure I was listening. On a different note, they do come with optional adjustable seat. Kawasaki is the best looking of all brands. If it ain't stylin, I ain't buyin. A big obstacle is the PRE-MIX gas engine. For what ever reason beyond my knowledge, it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth everytime I say the word.

If I'm not mistaken your avatar is a Wave Runner type. Too big for my taste. That thing is probably around 500 lbs or so. I doubt anyone can pull off a trick on em. I like to keep em simple if you know what I mean. drag it out when I need it. Drag it in when I don't. Kinda like what our ancestors the "Caveman" do prior to civilization.

In need to do more research on the PRE-MIX thing before I pick up a pair.

Catch you the next wave. We'll see who's the speed bump :D

Re: Looking for

pre mix aint that big a deal man. not much research to do realy. ya add oil to yer fuel at what ever ratio the mfg requires. usually ya have a few fuel cans around to do that with so ya can have some pre mix already for yer day. cans are nessesary to get a good mix too. shake it up a bit and get the fuel and oil mixed well.
some folks go so far as to remove the oil injection that came with their pwc and go to premixed fuel. that way they know that their 2-stroke is gettin the proper amount of lub(oil) and they don't have to worry that their oil injection could pump fail.

as for enough power, well, since ya only got 2 standup to chose from, ya aint got much choice for hp. the kawi's got a bigger engine. both are hop upable and have many hotrod parts available for them.
i don't think standups have seats. certainly not adjasable ones. if yer talkin about a seadoo3D, it aint really a stand up(though it does have adj. seats in a unique way) and is very heavy. not to good for freestylin i hear. and it's a 2 stroke too.
there is one last hope for ya. the kaw. x2. availible in japan i thinkk, not usa again. kinda a cross bewtween a stand up and sit down. with an aledged seat. most folks seem to ride em stanin up. i'm thinkin the x2 is 2 stroke to but aint sure of that one. good luck on finding what you want.
so what was the mistake ya made buying a boat ya don't want to repeat when buyin a pwc? just curious.... oh, captnkirk is right. check out pwctoday website. very good pwc site. just like iboats for pwc.....my opinion anyways.....

Re: Looking for

Stardust, I was just rambling about nothing. Got my boat 6 months ago; took it out a total of 4 times. Too big and clumsy. Too much work loading, unloading. I want something I can grab with one hand; throw it in the water and go. Screwa with all the latching unlatching, check the bilge, make sure the plug is in. The list goes on and on. And then theres the power issue. I'll leave it for another day. For different time. On a different forum.Bugs dun if you ask me.

You are correct. Seadoo3d has adjustable seat, but that thing is ugly.
