Looking for the correct manual / Engine identification

Hi all,

First time boat owner here. I bought a 28' 1987 Cruiser Rogue in July. Unfortunately the owner did not include the engine manual. All other documentation is there, except any type of indication of what the engine actually is.

I want to start on some basic maintenance, as well as getting to know the engine and outdrive. I am having trouble finding out exactly what year/model the engine is so I can purchase the correct manuals. I am posting some pics here in the hopes that someone may be able to identify it. At least, identify it close enough so that I can purchase the correct manual.

It is duel OMC outdrives I/O(stern drive?). 350's. Looks like GM engines.

Any help? Let me know if I need to provide more info and pics. Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on getting your boat! And you probably need to be welcomed into the stringer club ... some will groan at that, but you can make it go.

Start here: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=501126

You've got (I'm pretty sure) OMC Stringer 800 outdrives with a true mechanical shift. Getcha' a good manual, you're probably going to need one :D

Um,

I don't the think Stringers were available in 1987......so they should be Cobras.

Look for the model number on the engine.

It should like the following. 574AMFTC (5.7L) or 504AMARY (5.0L)

If the engines and drives are 1986 (which is common....manufacturers frequently use "last years"model engines and drives)

It could also be something like 574AMKWB

You'll need to find an (OEM) OMC service manual. Ebay is the best place to find them. (I suggest steering clear of Seloc or Clymer)

Good luck! AND welcome aboard by the way!!

Re: Looking for the correct manual / Engine identification

Thanks guys!

I keep looking for the serial sticker in places I've read they should be. Think I need to grab a good mirror to check other places. If I can't find the serial, are there any other indicators I should look for?

I'll be on the boat tomorrow. I'll look for the sticker.
