Hello,

I have been wanting to put a 90's smallblock v6 looper in place of a 89 v6 crossflow. I have a friend who has had a 200hr 91 175 that has been sitting for years. I believe my harness will plug right in?? I realize the first couple years of the 150,175 60deg. motors can develop a crack and water leak. How prevalent was the problem & is there anything you can proactively do to prevent the problem if the block is fine? I can get this motor for a song and if it has a major issue that I uncover I won't have any money into it just my time. Should I start into it or pass on the motor? Thanx

As I understand there were some issues with the early 60* motors with a fine crack leaking water into the #1 or #2 cylinder but that usually appeared only when the motor overheated. The only answer to the problem that I know of was to replace the block. It did not occur with all motors. Saturn went through similar problems in the early days of the Lost Foam casting process.

All I can tell you about the crack is it usually appeared at about 250 hrs. If the motor made it past that it was alright. It's your call.

It's a regular 175 but it does have the original 1991 heads, 335195.
