I've decided its time to take my '75 Sea Ray SRV180 to the doctor. It has shift problems that I don't think I have the talent to fix. Probably a lower shift cable from what I can determine with some help from some friendly iboaters. I think I know the mechanics to avoid, but it would sure be nice to get a referral for my vintage Mercruiser. Thanks much...

I recommend Ship Shape Marine in Smyrna. They are good with the older stuff. They are located on Murfreesboro Rd a couple miles past the Nissan Plant. The guy that owns it is Larry I think.

I've also had good dealings with Team Marine in Lavergne/Four Corners. No mechanic work done, but he's been reasonable on getting parts for me and I bough a boat there years ago. Honest fellow that remembered me 5 years later.

That cable is a pain to change, but not too bad if you can get to it inside the boat. I did mine a couple years ago.

It's not the mechanic bill that scares me. When I spend on the boat, my wife spends on something she wants. Seen the cost of manicures and hair-doos lately? The'd make a boat mechanic choke.... Good thing I've been able to fix it myself so far.....
