I have 2006, 50 hp merc that starts and runs great until it reaches operating temp. It is pumping water just fine ,i replaced the plugs and rebuilt the fuel pump. It runs great at 5300 rpm then about 5 minutes later it will slow to about 3000 rpm on its own but still runs great. If I throttle back to neutrel then give it full throttle it will take off like normal then slow to 3000 rpm. It is like there is a sensor that is slowing it down for some reason. It doesn't seem to be a ignition problem to me. All the plugs seem to be firing when this happens. it still runs smooth. Does anyone know of any sensors that could possibly be doing this? Is there a over heat sensor on these motors. I have no alarms going off or anything like that. I have opened the gas cap to make sure it is venting ok... Any idea's would be greatly appeciated.

Re: Looking for help

Get some spray Sea Foam (aerosol can) and the next time it does that, spray it directly into the carbs. Changes fuel, no change electronics. If electronics, first suspicion, CDModule...fires your plugs. Troubleshooting will be difficult due to multiple paks and temp problem. I'm going to say you probably will either have to have it professionally serviced, or buy one and walk it through the cylinders......butttt it could be something else so you just lost $100. But it's not all bad. One day you may need the CDM. I did.

Thanks Mark...
Im really thinking fuel, but who knows. I'm going to take some starting fluid with me and see what happens when I give it a shot. It continues to run smooth when this happens just lower speed. It idiols just fine also. ????????

Re: Looking for help

DO NOT use starting fluid, unless you want to kill that engine.
