ive got a 1986 50 hp yamaha. im rewiring the boat, and id like to know what color is the wire coming out of the control for the dash and tach, that feed IGNITION ON POWER... im more familiar with johnson and evinrudes and they use purple to feed the misc guages for lighting... when I tore the dash down there were several wires going to the tach from this small group of wires coming out of the control. but they were wrapped line a previous owner installed them... i know the big cable takes all the wiring back to the motor.

Red is the wire color that conveys battery voltage to the key switch. With the key on, the yellow wire provides battery power to the instruments. The green wire is the tachometer signal. The black wire is the ground.

So the red wire runs. To my fuse panel feed! I would have thought that power would come from the. Battery via motor via the cable!!

The red wire is within the Yamaha seven pin or ten pin main engine harness. Red wire gets battery power at the motor. Conveys power to the Yamaha key switch.

The illustration shows a fused wire harness between the control box and the instruments. Part number 6Y5-83553-M0.

The fused harness powers and grounds all of the instruments. Of which there can be many. As well as providing the frequency signal to a tachometer.
