okay guys, first of all the boat is a 95 crestliner pro am 1650sc with a 70hp johnson

it currently has a stainless prop part # 389948 13 3/8 x 17

its a bit rough, and could use to be cleaned up at least.

however after seeing and reading of some of the carnage that can happen when a stainless prop hits a hard place... and considering i boat the mighty mississippi just north of qaud cities iowa land of wingdams and stump fields.

i think aluminum may be a safer idea....for the longevity of my lower unit.

boat performs ok currently so point me to an affordable equivalent in something softer than stainless.

Just get an aluminum prop same dia/pitch with an XHS hub system.

Not necessarily. Assuming that the current prop is correctly sized for normal load and WOT rpm, then you'll want to add an inch or two to the pitch when you go from Stainless to Aluminum. Aluminum flexes more, so you want a bit more pitch to compensate.

Will probably only make a difference to you if you've already spent time and money to optimize performance with stainless...

What is the present max rpm and speed a 17 is close to normal for the typical 70 hp installation. but as stated your performance will vary from the stainless some what unpredictably.
