Hi,
I am looking at buying a 1974 Glastron with the 3.0 Volvo Penta. Is there anything in particular that I should be looking for? I know my dad had a 1968 and we had a lot of problem with the leg. The fork that control the forward and reverse in the leg kept braking off. Any advice would be welcome:)

You'll be better off in the I/O forum.Someone there should have informed info
on the Volvo. If I recall right parts availability in general is the weak point.
You might just do search for various common parts; pumps, universals, gimbles, exhaust elbows ,carb parts fuel pumps etc. see what you find.

What is the model number of your engine. Volvo didn't go by liters back then, only by model numbers something like AQ130A (example only)
The 3.0L engines now days are a GM 4 cylinder engine used by Volvo, but they didn't use it in 74

I dont have a serial number yet. I beleive it is a 4 cylinders red engine block with a silver color valve cover. I am looking on what to look for beside compression. Does these have a generator or is there an alternator for it? How to tell if the leg is shot? vibration, noise ??

I have the engine model number. It is a BB115B. I am looking at information on what to look for on an older engine like that with 900hrs. It was use in a lake, not sea water. I know that the leg had issues in the older generation.Any advice would be welcome;)

Not sure why you called it a 3.0L engine, it's actually only 1.98L (121 cu. in.)
The BB also indicates it's a straight inboard engine, and NOT an outdrive. If you have an outdrive, then the engine has been replaced some where along the line. That engine was used from 1970 to 75.
Do a compression test, compression should be in the 170 to 200 psi range.
They are OLD, parts are expensive or NLA. Keep that in mind.

Have you checked out any of the Posts on older Volvos? From what I've read
sounds like they can be a pain. Theres a post here about carb kits.it requires 5 kits to repair 2 carbs total $600 some dollars.I bet there are other parts that are scarce and expensive.
