Thanks for the help last week. Replaced the cool fuel unit, turns out after getting the old one out the pressure regulator was rusted out. The pump was on its last leg too. Boat pegs out at 52 mph with 4 people.
New question. (Don S.) guru at large.. My old tach was acting up so I replaced it. The new one pegs out when the engine starts and stays there until its shuts off. I check voltage to the gauge and I am getting 12 volts. The gauge is a Gaffrig and I set it for 8 cylinders. I think I remember that the tach signal goes thru the pcm before going to the gauge. I Have found a gray wire that is notated as an auxillary tach lead it comes off a harness with a tan/blue, purple, and blue/Tan wires. Diagram I have says it is instrument components.
Can this auxillary wire be connected straight to the tach sender post, and bypass the pcm signal or is it detrimental that I find the problem with the current wiring?
I read on another thread Don S. said not to disturb that auxillary wire, but I am not sure its the same wire as mentioned.
The engine is a 0L356438 mercuiser 350 mag. using the can coil (that I have replaced).
