looking for advice on a 1996 merc 15 hp.

hey guys, im looking for a bit of advice on a motor im looking at buying. its a 1996 merc 15 hp, guy says it wont shift, but runs great. he has it on remote controls. its an electric start. he wants 200 bucks, its in good shape, but id also have to try to find a tiller handle setup for it as my boat is tiller steer. whats your guys opinions, should i buy it?

could be his cables are frozen, if you take the cowl off you should be able to shift it into forward and reverse manually that way. if you can find a good tiller then why not!

said his cables are brand new

buy a different motor. Converting it to a tiller is going to be expensive by itself. Then you have the lower unit problem which is a known issue on those motors.

Yeah, I ended up finding a tiller 35 ho Johnson for free, guy repowered his boat and said whoever messages first gets it. I shot him a message and I got it. I asked him how fast I was and he said about 2 minutes. Motor runs beautiful, electric start
