Hi everyone! Coming back to the community after a hiatus. Our beloved cabin cruiser met it's match on the river and was pretty much totaled. There isn't a day that goes by where we don't miss that boat. We started looking at pontoon boats. They are WAY more expensive than their fiberglass counterparts.

All that to say that I was hoping you guys might be able to set me straight on some pricing. We went and looked at one that seemed pretty promising. Until we got there. Asking was nearly $6000. Came with a trailer. A 1999 24'. Basically the definition of ridden hard put away wet. Seats seem un-salvageable as even parts of the foam were missing. Floor wasn't soft, but there was moss growing on parts, so obviously wet. 90HP motor needs work, he could't show me it running. Has sea legs.

I probably shouldn't even be entertaining it anymore, but I am. Given the "issues", what is something like that realistically worth? I talked to him for a bit, and told him I'd be somewhere around $4000, he said he had other people coming so wanted to entertain other offers. Obviously I understand that.

Going back and forth, I'm not even sure it's worth $4k. AITA here? What might you offer if you were in my position?

For a boat that age, with those issues that doesn't even run, I would think $2000 to $3000 is about right. That is unless it's a very high end name brand or has some extra features or something to add value. If I where you I would keep looking. You should be able to find a decent pontoon of that age for $10,000 or so which is probably way less then it take to fix that one, especially if he wants $6000 for it.

Thanks for the reply! After thinking about it for awhile, $3000 seems like it wouldn't be too far off. Likely, I'll keep looking. Thanks again!
