Picked up a Nissan 2.5 outboard from brother in law after he passed. Has been sitting in his shed for near 10 years. As the story go's, "ran when parked" :) cleaned the tank, checked compression (ok) new plug. Thought I was good to go. However, no spark. Pulled the flywheel and the points looked good, ohmed the kill button... no problem there. I think I'm down to possibly coil, condenser. My question is, have I overlooked something? Other question is serial # is 43468. anyone know what year this beast may be?
thanks for any help.

That's a museum model OB with points and condenser as per description, good luck if finding someone still servicing that OB that could provide correct hints about troubleshooting that obsolete oldie.-

Parts are not available so the smart bet would be to walk away. Years were never used as parts were looked up by the model number. To troubleshoot the ignition system you would need a service manual

I hear everybody. I kind of knew it was a shot in the dark. :joyous: Since I have no $$$$ in it, I can just walk away. However, I do like the challenge of tackling a dinosaur like me.

Oh... and thank you all for the replies.

If you want to have that dino back to life, start by changing point and condenser, clean all grounds, check all electrical wires cond, see what happens. As the saying goes, there is no greater diligence that is not done...

Good news. the old girl is purring like a kitten. After checking and re-checking everything, I was scratching my head because everything was checking out ok. Then, I did the one thing that I should have done first. I changed the spark plug. Of all things, new plug and 3 pulls she was running.
Thank you everyone for you replies.

Yep, sometimes the culprit is in front of our nose, in your case a new spark plug made the day, congrats, enjoy that oldie.

Yes, I still can't believe it was right in front of my nose. But now, it's hooked to the canoe and off to the flats for some redfish.:)

This is the third posted case in which spark plug/plugs were overlooked right from the beginning, a must include them right before troubleshooting all electrical componets as first step and then go from thereon.
