Can anyone recommend a decent GPS/Charplotter/Fishfinder? I do alot of saltwater fishing in South Florida. I've been looking at a Furuno GP1650 but was wondering if there was anything else out there that is comparable.

Ahoy Schanen. The Furuno is certainly a nice unit, but not the equal of a Garmin color unit with Bluecharts. The Garmin 2010C model leads the pack in GPS. Even the 168 monochrome Garmin dual units, with Bluecharts, are better, at a fraction of the price.

For sonar the Furuno is probably as good as you can get for big, deep water. For shallow water, the Garmin dual units are also excellent.

If you want the best sonar, get the Furuno. If you want the best gps, get a Garmin. If you want the best combo, I would still go with the Garmin.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Thanks J.B. I'll look into the Garmin units. I actually hadn't considered them before. Maybe that's because the salesman at my local marine electronics store recommended the Furuno so highly. I wonder if he works on commission? ;)

I agree with JB. Garmin has the best inshore and GPS systems that I have seen, and I've messed with a lot of them.

The Furuno is very good for offshore deep water fishing.

But my next bigwater boat will have all Garmin on it.

If you are looking for a combination unit. I personally don't recommed them. If ether the GPS, or the sounder goes, you have Zip, until repaired. Also go for quality not price, you get what you pay for. Most combs, have a split screen= 1/2 gps,1/2 sounder, and it is a pain switching back and forth.
