Looking for a creative idea for flushing outboard

I have an outboard on the back of a 14 ft wide houseboat. The engine is a 1995 Evinrude 130 that has no flushing port. As such, a set of muffs need to be used. Due to the way I have to dock this tank, it would be difficult at best to be able to reach the lower unit. The engine is sitting on a bracket which sets it back an additional couple of feet. Other than sticking the muffs on a long pole, which would be a ROYAL pain to slide onto the lower unit with, I don't have any ideas. Anyone dealt with this type problem? I have searched and can't find any product that I can retro fit to allow a flushing port. Very interested in a solution if anyone has one.

Thanks, Scott

Is this in salt or brackish water?

Cap off the siphon hose under cowling and get a plastic fitting that will thead onto the tattle tale. Make your atachment there with fresh water and keep it about 30-50 psi...

Thanks Faztbullet. It's not a concern whether I would get enough flow pumping in though the tattle tale? The inside diameter of the hose connecting from the tattle tale to the block inlet is 1/4 inch. That is enough?

Re: Looking for a creative idea for flushing outboard

There is a reason old motors don't flush: flushing is a relatively new "habit." OB's have run in salt water for generations without flushing. That's not to say flushing is bad or even useless; it is helpful but not necessary. So you are among the thousands of salt water boaters who, for practical reasons, don't flush. Even my 5 year old 150 Yam, with a flush port, doesn't get flushed b/c I don;t have water on my pier.

A trickle of water through the tell tale, as you suggested, might not do much good. But it's something, if you feel compelled to do something.

A friend was working on an invention to have muffs on a pipe (hollow pole) to stick on OB's, as you suggested. Maybe you can put something together. Also I think there is an aftermarket flusher but I recall that it's right expensive.

Think about this: your OB already has 15 years of salt water run through it. Flushing now would probably only be of marginal benefit, if any. Don't sweat it. Worry more about sandy water than salty water at the end of the day.
