Hey all, Hows everyone been.. I was just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to find a couple Good Spinning Rod Combos for Stripers ( Boat) Been a Flat fish Angler for years and Don't know what kind of set ups to use for NJ stripers... Cabelas has a lot to choose from but I don't want to over do it with a Monster rod and I don't want something too small.

Bottom fishing.. Did a lot of research and bought a set of 6' uglystks and 2 BAITRUNNER 3500B BAITFEEDER REELS.. Know someone who's uses these and they should work out great...

But thanks for the reply...

We use Penn CL series.....CL6600,CL440 Baitrunners. Bunker, eels and Hering.......They are avilable on Ebay and Sports athority and are smooth as silk, durable and bullit proof....I use Ugly Stick 6' and 7' med heavy. Always had good luck !!!

The Penn Captivas are pretty bad. I work in a tackle shop and we are gonna stop carrying them because we get so many returns. When line is flying off the spool and the baitrunner is disengaged to set up on the fish, it blows out the clutch. (by the way, Penn is now Chinese, except for the Internationals)
The Shimano Baitrunners are very nice reels though. I really beat one up on a head boat for blues and it took everything that i dished out.

Humm...a little pricier than Ugly Sticks but here is what I used:)

From the beach: 1418 Alstar with Abu 6500 Chrome Rockets.

From the boat : Loomis 803 GLX with an Abu 6500 Mag Elite

I am surprised to here that the CL 4400 and 6600 series reels are bad? I have had a few of mine for a few years now and I river striper fish hard. 36 to 44 inchers and we don't mess around? I have yet to have a failure? I have heard very good things about the shimano baitrunners but have not seen any available locally. Hope AJ168 has this wrong LOL I have alot of money invested in my reels!
