Anyone have any idea where I might look for a motor (as pictured) It is a 12v DC motor out of my radial bilge blower. It is probably a 20-25 buck motor and I would sure rather be able to replace it than spend 70 bucks for a new blower assembly.

The only markings on it (I googled it to no avail) is "VMC 287-099 12V". I tried Grainger and they did not have it. It must be available out in the big wide world. The blower is an ITT Jasco product but I doubt they made the motor.

Interesting you mentioned that LubeDude. A few years ago I needed to replace the sealed heater motor in my Mustang. It does resemble that. I had to go to Ford and pay $200.00 for the right motor. I still haven't put the heater box back together so I'll go look at the motor.

The number that NAPA had was a cheap stamped straight walled motor with big hole in the side of it for a later style system to accept a heater hose to keep condensation down. As the Mustang didn't have that feature, plus it was exposed and visible in the engine compartment, I opted for the OEM motor. If it is the same, I wonder if it has any MFG'R markings on it?? I'll have a look.

Boomyal. When companies build parts like this they typically send out blue prints to have special motors built for their own special application. These motors are not typically availible to the public. Even if you are able to find the company that made this chances are they could not sell you one even if they had it. Planned obsolesence. Five dollar part goes bad and you have to replace a 500 dollar assembly.

I'd think find one about the same size and adapt :)

do you have a grainger store around you can physically walk in and see if they can find a close match? I was at the local store today, got 30 minutes of help to find a $2.00 box of bolts that they didn't have, and then refered me to a place up the street that might.

VMC isn't a brand, it's a description. I don't know what it stands for but I've seen it before on bosch 12v motors.

Try here, you'll need a PDF reader.

http://www.fasco.com/prodcat.asp

If its a bilge blower, doesnt it need to be explosion proof?

Ken

Yes KIZ, the above is a sealed motor.

Noel, i'v been to Grainger. They only have two 12v motors.(verified by catalogue) The closest one has too small a shaft and even with an adaptor the squirrel cage fan just spins on the shaft.

Take it to an electrical shop and get them to rebuild it.

I asked about the explosion proof, cause I doubt a heater motor would be classified explosion proof.

Ken
