Looking at upgrading to a new boat

I am in no rush, though I have been thinking of upgrading to a bigger boat. I have a 19ft Cuddy right now it is fine with another couple. As we don't sleep or use the head it seems the cuddy is a moot point right now. I originally got it as the price and condition were so good I found it hard to pass up. Now that I love boating and we go out a lot every year, I am thinking of upgrading so we can bring more friends along. I am thinking of going with a deck boat. As we don't go out in bad weather I am not really as worried about the "harsher" ride that deck boats can have. I also like the seating arrangement of these boats. I am mainly wanting something to bring more people out for skiing and tubing.

What do you guys think of this: Used 2002 Monterey 220 Explorer, Mattituck, Ny - 11952 - BoatTrader.com

The price seems good, granted it doesn't come with a trailer, though I am thinking this might be pushing the trailer capacity of my vehicle (4500-5000lbs) for a 3600lbs dry weight boat. I might just slip it and keep it on stands during the winter. I haven't heard to many bad things about Monterey, compared to Bayliners, etc. I think my boat right now has better lines, though the functionality of this boat seems to fit more of what I am looking for. Also I am fairly sure this was in salt water and it is a bit of a drive to get there from where I am.

Thanks in advance,

Definitely a lake boat . . . Monty's are decent boats.

I think that you will want something that has a porta-potty/enclosed head, as with bigger crowds on board, someone is going to need the restroom.

Many 22 ft bowriders will have an enclosed head on the port side/console. There are also some 'dual console' boats, which are similar to a bowriders, but can handle a chop as needed.

Re: Looking at upgrading to a new boat

I'm running a new Bennington 24' Tritoon with a F150 Yamaha. I've seen a number of twin pontoon boat owners switch over to Hurricanes and other deckboats only to come back to the tritoons for quality of ride and general roominess of the very high quality interiors.

My boat is very seaworthy, and runs 40 mph with a stainless 15 pitch prop. We use it for long distance river cruising.

Whenever people mention carrying a bunch of people, pontoons/tritoons are the first boat I'd recommend.

Thanks for the suggestion, though I am looking for a glass boat. I am one of those guys that prefer a glass boat over a pontoon. I also want to do wake boarding and skiing. I don't know why, but I just love the feeling of a mono hull. I want something just a little bit bigger, but not that much.

Re: Looking at upgrading to a new boat

Deckboats are a little rough riding for my use, but if I was going to buy one it would be the Allure made by Bennington.

Allures are available on the used market, and can be found in Boattraders.com. I was looking at one this afternoon in a boathouse up the lake, and it's a very beautiful boat.
