Looking at project trailer

Ok, I'm looking at a project trailer for my mostly finisged project boat. The trailer is an older tandem axle with an ancient surge brake system. I have looked it over and the frame and axles look to be in good shape. Outside of that, everything else would be going. New tires, wheels, bunks, brakes (already have these), winch (have), jack (have), keel rolles, guide rollers, psint, and coupler.

The only part of this project that is unknown to me is the cost to have the old A-Frame coupler removed and a new coupler (not a brake actuator, the new brakes will be electric) welded in its place. The coupler will cost me about $25. Anyone have any idea what it might cost to get the welding done?

Yes, I might be able to buy a trailer that needs less work, but the cost would be comparable, I would have to travel at least 10 hours round trip to get it, and would then have to get it the way I want. I would just assume have the project and build what I need.

A lot of the couplers bolt on. If it has to be welded, I think $20 and a case of beer might cover it. A friend might do it cheaper. A real shop may charge up to $75.

I'd look for someone that works on racecars or misc equipment repair, and offer them the chance to make $30 on the side.

I weld everything and bolted my coupler in place, as I see that as an item that may need to replaced one day. But if you do want to weld it, ask around, you'd be surprised who you know that has a welder.

Drive to MO, I'll do it.

A local shop wanted $75 + parts to do it. The Coupler is odd in that the neck is 12" long or so where the usual a-frame couplers I'm finding are very short. I wonder If I could remove the existing ball mount, which bolts on, and install a standard coupler over the neck of the a-frame and bolt/weld it in place? Here is a pic, do you guys think this is workable for easy replacement?

Keep in mind that I will be converting to electric brakes and will not need to deal with a hydraulic controller, so all the old junk can GO.
