Hey guys new here, but not new to boating by any means haha, just new to the non commercial side of it. I am planning on buying myself a "new" boat this year for just playing with at the lakes and just towing a tube, and maybe some wake boarding but not much if it dose happen. I am looking at a few different boats that are in my price.

2015 Bayliner 175 with the 3.0 (brand new) 18.000
2007 Reinell 185 BR Volvo 4.3 (boats really clean almost looks brand new) 14,000
2000 Chaparral 196ssi Volvo 5.0 (super clean boat by pics) 10,000
2005 Moomba outback 188 hours and clean for 16,500 but I have a feeling it will be sold soon haha

there is also a few others I was looking at, I know these are all way different boats in drivetrain and year, but they all seem to be nice boat. I am just kind of worried the 4 banger will be under powered, but would be nice to have brand new and all the warranties. So to cut it short primary use of the boat will be fresh water towing a tube 1-3 person tube (at biggest) with maybe 3 to 4 people in the boat, with me being 240 and everyone else being under 160. only going to be used in the summer months mostly and stored inside in the off months. Thank you guys!

Without seeing the exact boats in person I can not say which is best but I will say that based on what you have said I would go with the Chaparral since it is the biggest and has a better power to weight ratio IMO.

thanks for the input, it is appreciated! never owned a boat with a Volvo, I have had a few mercrusiers though so it would be a new experience ! but the last boat I had with a mercrusier was a 32 foot bowpicker that was used as a dive boat haha

Are you looking for new? It sort of sounded you were looking for a warrantee but your price range is $15-$20, you'll not get a new boat in the size you are looking for. Closer to $25-$40 will get you a new boat in the 17-20 foot range.

I am looking mostly at used, but there is a few left over 2015 bayliners with the 3.0 for sale for little under 18,000 brand new, they just worry me that they will be underpowered.

The Bayliner 175 is en entry level bowrider, likely would be outclassed by the other types of used boats you are looking at, and not just in the available power. The Bayliner is ok but just seems that given the taste in boats you have exhibited that you would be "settling" for it.

I agree, I would rule out the Bayliner. Not sure how to pick on the other three though.

For 4 people plus a tube you don't want the Bayliner. I'd get the Chap since it is the biggest with the largest engine. Really, it's not that big when you start loading passengers and gear.

Well here is a few pics of the chap, you guys think there would be anything to look for issue wise ? Never owned a volvo or a SX drive, but from doing a bit of reading they seem to be a good set up.

I think it looks reasonably clean for the price, few small scratches on the sides from docking, but nothing bad.

Looks like that Chap is a great boat from the pictures would come down to price for me. As roffey mentioned it would be nice to know the price of it.

My usual advice in regards to boats for your stated purpose is to get at least a 20 footer with a V8 and the Chaparral fits those criteria. Space on board is at a premium and once you put a few people on board, tubes, coolers, etc. it gets filled up fast. A 4.3 EFI engine would probably be OK but more power is almost always better.

Here is my opinion. Before I looked at any of the pictures, the Chaparral looked like the best deal. Then, when I saw the photos it just helped support my opinion. Chaparrals are typically nice boats. Happy buying! good luck!

I see the list of boats....1st of all, buying any used fiberglass boat older than a couple of years old is a gamble, especially a 16 year old boat. Don't get into the "SURE LOOKS PRETTY" or I'm going to be hauling around 6-7 people around.(how often is that going to happen)frame of mind. The Bayliner 175 with a 3.0 is a nice boat, I know many people who own one, it's a 40+mph boat with 3 people on board. Now...have you looked at a Bayliner Element XL with a 115HP, it will do everything you want to do. Priced between 18-20K. There is nothing like a NEW boat with a warranty.....Just my 2cts

Fishin98 I completely have to agree with you on the new being nice! I have alway bought my toys new just because the worry factor of used. At 10grand that chap is really nice, yes I looked at the element but nobody had one instock with a 115 all the 90. I will hopefully be buying within the month of April. There is a few diffrent boats I have been looking at, but there is not many nice ski boats here in WA for good price, the majority of them are so rotten or way to expansive. If I used this boat more id be willing to spend more money, but comsidering this will just be a toy I really dont want to spend over 20, I have around a 100 grand into my dive boat..... Diffrents is it pays for its self! At least most the time haha
