Looking at a Maxum, any concerns?

We're in the process of making an offer on a 1999 Maxum 3300 SCR, it's in mint condition with about 250 hours on the engines. (Survey still to be done, however). Hoping to get it for $48000-$50000. Any concerns buying a line that's been discontinued? Will it lose its value even faster? And the Maxum forum at this site is practically dead. Any thoughts are appreciated. (We are new to boating, this is our first boat.)

I know a guy who had the EXACT boat, and EXACT year. He loved it. Nice boat. Maxum is a mid tier boat, but you shouldn't have any problems if the survey comes back clean.

BTW I loved the name of his boat. He is a Penn State Nittany Lion graduate. He had a small nittany lion logo on the back and named it "Lion' in the sun".... I love dual meaning boat names.

Good to see you're getting a survey. I wouldn't worry about the discontinuation of the brand. Not like you can find model-specific parts and ANY boat after a couple years from new anyway. Good luck!

I bought a much smaller Maxum new right when Brunswick made the announcement. Have had no issues related to the brand being discontinued. While IBoats is, in my view, the best boating site on the net, you might want to go the Maxum Owners Club site forum for more brand specific information if you haven't already. There are some very helpful guys on that forum (like here) but it does not get near the traffic IBoats does. Check it out.

Good luck.

Thanks for your input. We are proceeding with an offer. We've been looking for about a year but had never considered a Maxum.

Are you gonna change your screen name after you buy it :)

Good luck and have fun!

I am a current boat owner - made the transition from future-boat-owner about 2 months ago when we purchased a (low hour) 2001 Maxum 2500 SCR. So far it has been a great boat and we have had no issues. Have also received many compliments on the design / appearance of the boat. Good luck with your purchase.
