Looking at a Bravo HP Transom assembly tomorrow--what to look for

I am going to look at a used bravo HP transom assembly tomorrow. I know the steering pin needs to be checked, is this doable without the weight of the out drive to test slop? What else do I need to check to verify it is good?

It's not the pin as much as it is the corrosion were the seal presses in. Won't be visible with ring and bell attached.

So, basically rolling the dice when buying used?

The square hole in the ring where the pin fits is another wear point.
If the 3 pieces were disassembled you could see what your getting then.

Ayuh,..... Even on the bench, ya oughta be able to shake, wiggle, pull, 'n pry things enough to get a fair idea of how worn it is,.....
