I am new to the forum and I looking at buying a 1982 Bayliner Capri with the 2.1 engine and 270 out-drive. I think that makes it an AQ125 and I am concerned about the out-drive condition.
Then engine looks OK and I am familiar with it since I once bought an 83 Volvo 4 door new and then had a 1986 2.3 wagon for 23 years and still have it for parts since I got my 17 yr old son an 89 manual tranny wagon. My summer car is a 1972 1800ES with a fuel injected B20. I am already a Volvo guy.
So I like those old red block Volvo engines but I am totally unfamiliar with I/O units. Is the 270 OK?? I think (most) parts are still available. This one has new bellows already but that makes me concerned since there is "play" in the steering and also up and down when I wiggle it while on the trailer. Maybe some parts did not get torqued properly?? Also needs relays to operate the tilt properly. He has some toggle switched tapped/wired in and it only works at the transom.
Can you steer me to some good procedures to check it out? It sounds like Don has tons of experience with these units. Thanks in advance!
