Only a few years old but can a Merc dealer or a technician like a boat inspector hook something up to verify how many hours on the motor?
Thx

Actually, there is one scan tool that will read hours off the Thunderbolt V ignition system, even on carbed engines without an ECM.
IF, you can find someone with the Rinda scan tool and they have the $50 harness adapter to read the hours, then it is possible. I have the scan tool, but not the adapter. Could not justify a $50 adapter and the only thing you can read is the engine hours on a module. If the module was ever changed, all the previous hours were lost.

Thanks for the replies.

Hopefully, since I'd only be looking at 2006 and up Merc's they are probably computer controlled.

Now I know to also check with Merc first with the motor's model # so I could locate someone with the proper equipment first, before they come to do a survey.
